Skipper Andrew Strauss has said team unity over the last three years has been outstanding despite Kevin Pietersen pointing to tensions that have been simmering within the England dressing room since he came back from this year's Indian Premier League.
Pietersen believes that his England teammates are behind a fake Twitter account that is holding up his new contract.
The account, @kevpietersen24 is wickedly observed and, providing you have an English sense of humour, extremely funny.
Strauss refused to be drawn on current issues involving Pietersen with the England and Wales Cricket Board, and made it a point to defend the atmosphere in the camp.
He said: "One thing I would say,
and it's important to stress this, is that the team spirit and unity
over the last three years has been outstanding.
"It's something we've always prided ourselves on and will continue to do so going forward."
Pietersen is on the brink of retiring from Test cricket amid a dispute with the ECB, The Sun reports.
The 32-year-old has been angry
with the ECB after details of a meeting they had, in which it was
suggested he miss the series with New Zealand next summer to play in the
Indian Premier League, were made public.
Pietersen admitted that the third
Test with South Africa at Lord's next week could be his last, with
others speculating he may already have played it following yesterday's
draw at Headingley.
He also claimed to being lonely in the dressing room.
