Tamil Nadu batsman S. Badrinath has been named VVS Laxman’s replacement for the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand, which begins at Hyderabad on August 23.
Laxman announced his retirement from international cricket with “immediate effect” on Saturday, bringing the curtain down on a glorious career that spanned 16 years.
Badrinath, a domestic behemoth often considered unlucky not to have played more for India, has represented the country in two Tests and seven ODIs. He has also played a Twenty20 International.
The middle-order batsman, who will turn 32 in August, played both his Tests against the touring South Africans in 2010, scoring a career-best 56 in the first test at Nagpur.
With tonnes of runs in the domestic circuit and a first-class average of 60.74 in 104 matches, Badri would look capitalize on this latest chance and cement his place in the team.
