It was an emotional return to international cricket for Yuvraj Singh on Tuesday.
Like in Visakhapatnam, it wasn’t any different at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai with fans carrying giant posters and placards wishing him luck.
The rain didn’t play spoilsport and Yuvraj didn’t disappoint the near full-house. After bowling two overs, he came in at No. 4 to score 34 off 26 balls including two sixes and a boundary. In between, he also took a catch off Lakshmipathy Balaji’s bowling to dismiss James Franklin.
“I am happy to be back in the middle. I was very nervous when I came in to bat... I was a bit emotional when I came into the field. Lots of emotions today. My family’s there… My mom, my friends are here to support me. It’s been a good day for me,” said Yuvraj after the match.
“I think it was good that I got to be on the field before I stepped in to bat. But I don’t know how it would have been stepping in to bat first. And coming back to bat, I think it was a great day for me."
“The first boundary wasn’t a great shot but I was happy to get four runs. But when I hit that six, it felt great because under pressure there were times that I hit the ball out of the ground. It felt good, felt that I was back."
“I can’t even describe. It’s been a huge battle for me, it’s been a huge fight. And I am proud that today [Tuesday] I am on the ground again."
“There were a few tears when I was fielding at the start of the first over. Thankfully the cameras didn’t catch it. But it’s been a very emotional journey,” explained Yuvraj.
